Elizabeth "Libby" West
I am from Jeffersonville, IN, located in Southern Indiana, directly across the Ohio River from downtown Louisville, Ky. I have been so thankful for to be a part of the great engineering program at IUPUI. At school, I have been able to get involved in a wide variety of things, on and off campus. I love spending my time outside, especially with my dog where we walk the canal downtown Indianapolis. I am currently involved with the School of Engineering and Technology through different organizations and offices, all of which have been a great opportunity to meet new people. I am looking forward to participating more in the Indianapolis community through service opportunities available. As I continue through my career, I look forward to the exciting and educational experiences ahead.

Work Experience
Mechanical Engineering Intern
Mussett, Nicholas, and Associates
May 2019 - Present
MNA is an architectural engineering firm that works with a multitude of clients to fit their mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) and architectural needs. Clients range from upper-education, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, K-12, and more. I have worked on different HVAC and plumbing designs where I have sized the respective units based on building requirements and demand. This position has allowed me to familiarize myself with different codes applicable to the building and construction industry. I enjoy working on the controls side of HVAC, as well as being onsite for surveying and troubleshooting.
Student Mechanical Engineer
Industrial Assessment Center at IUPUI | US D.O.E.
August 2018 - May 2019
The Industrial Assessment Center is sponsored by the United States Department of Energy as a free services to manufacturing facilities that meet a certain criteria. Here, B.S., M.S., and P.h.D. students alike work alongside sponsoring faculty to do energy audits for different facilities on site. The goal is to walk through and analyze different energy saving measures that are not already in place and then are writing in a recommendation report that is then supplied back to the client.
Controls Engineering Co-Op
ControlTouch Systems, LLC.
May 2018 - August 2020
I was a Controls Engineering Co-Op for ControlTouch Systems. My responsibilities included writing/modifying programs in PLC Ladder Logic, HMI's, and SCADA graphics packages. I designed graphic user interfaces with FactoryTalk and worked with Allen Bradley products. I also traveled to jobsites to help debug, commission, and startup systems. I primarily assisted with the development of electrical drawings using AutoCAD while working alongside Controls Engineers in the company.
Structures Engineering Intern
Comlux Completions
October 2017 - May 2018
I was an intern for the Structures Engineering group at Comlux Completions. I earned this position by participating in the Duke Energy Internship Program at IUPUI. I have only been at Comlux now for six months but I feel like I have already started to make connections of what I am learning in class to the work place and vice versa. During my first few weeks, I started to learn their unique data managing and drawing creation processes through a series of revising drawings and creating new drawings for current projects. I was tasked to help in the design of a new replacement part to be used in an assembly on one of the airplanes. This project started out very simple but became a bigger challenge than once initially thought. I worked with both stress and project management groups in order to create the best part for the given criteria with possible secondary benefits. My supervisor gave me the opportunity to train with other full-time engineers at a Solidworks Essentials Training Course for a full week where I earned a certificate for completing the Solidworks Essentials: Parts and Assemblies course. This was an awesome for me as an intern and future engineer. During my Spring 2018 semester, I was enrolled in a technical communications class. A large part of our grade is due to writing a recommendation report for a real life client. I interviewed our Head of Engineering; in hopes to find and propose a solution for the problem we discussed. Comlux has a great network of employees who have been very helpful and friendly towards me as I try to learn about the aviation industry and what it means to be a "full-fledged" engineer.
AutoCAD Intern
Cylicron, LLC.
June 2016 - August 2017
Upon graduating high school, I was given the opportunity to intern beside both a Mechanical Engineer and an AutoCAD specialist at this manufacturing facility.; Cylicron manufactures printing-press cylinders. During my first summer, in 2016, I worked primarily on AutoCAD where I learned the software and the company's process for creating and detailing drawings to be produced on the manufacturing floor. During my second summer, in 2017, I had kept my same responsibilities and was able to collaborate with the other intern on a safety design project that was to be implemented on the plant floor. My internship at Cylicron was a great opportunity to learn about how the manufacturing industry works where I also met a lot of great people.
Web Design Intern
Linck Built Homes/Advisor Realty
June 2017 - August 2017
Over the summer, I helped design a professional web site for Linck Built Homes to be used by their customers. During this experience I became more familiar with Wix Editor, used AutoCAD to create floor plans, and observed financial meetings between the business and other legal parties. I enjoyed my time with these two companies; I was able to learn about the home building process and even help with the design of a home that was completed in early March of 2018. It is a great experience to see your design come to life in order to benefit other people.

Living Room of the home I helped design using AutoCAD.

Front of the home I helped design using AutoCAD.
