Design of Complex and Origami Structures
Project Presentations
The following PDF displays showcase individual projects in chronological order from the start of the semester to the end. We utilized Matlab, LS Prepost, Altair Inspire, 3d Modeling to Print, and actually paper to create complex and/or origami structures.
Design Project 02 | Chair Optimization
The goal of this project was to find three different chairs and then run an optimization software to find the best design per specified loads and constraints.
Here is the 3d printed part:
Design Project 05 | Paper Folding for Strong Designs
This project got us familiar with paper folding and the complex, yet strong paper designs that have been researched today and put into real world application.
Design Project 06.2 | Turn Single Unique Unit into One Large Structure
This was my favorite project of the course. We folded paper until we got a single unique unit that we could make multiple of. and then combined into a large structure. We then took the structure and tested how it would perform under various loads and conditions. The individual units and combined structure were modeled both physically with paper, and using a CAD software, Autodesk's Inventor. I then 3d printed one single unit which is displayed below.

Design Project 7.2 | Car Optimization per Case
This was another really fun project. Here we designed cars using Altair Inspire and then put them under different loads and case scenarios to see what an optimized structure would need to be depending the case. LS Prepost and Matlab were used to help run the optimization process.
